Abstract

The growing share of renewable energy sources (RES) in the power grid brings challenges related to production instability and electricity surpluses. One promising approach to mitigating these fluctuations is the storage of energy in the form of high-temperature thermal energy. This article examines the possibilities of storing heat in refractory ceramic blocks, outlines the basic principles of energy storage, provides examples of materials, and compares their storage capacities. It further discusses the concept of a high-temperature heat exchanger and the prospects for applying this technology in the energy sector.
