Abstract

Six alkali-activated (AAC) mortars were studied, prepared with ground blast furnace slag (GBFS) and KOH, with sand fully replaced by recycled red brick aggregate (RBA). The raw materials were characterised by X-ray fluorescence, and reaction kinetics were examined using isothermal calorimetry. Hydration heat release and cumulative heat flow were compared with ordinary Portland cement (OPC) mortars. Mechanical properties of AAC mortars were evaluated against OPC references, and the OPC hydration heat curve was modelled. The study provides a direct comparison between AAC and OPC systems.
