Abstract

Concrete and all cement-based composites constitute a crucial material base necessary for ensuring modern, fast and intensive constriction. In general, common building composites contain about 70–80 % of filling materials in their volume. Given the gradual depletion of non-renewable resources and the European Union’s waste management strategies, the incorporation of alternative and recycled fillers into cement-based composites is of paramount importance. The paper is aimed at the utilization of processed building waste (B-W) as a replacement of natural sand (S-L) in cement-based mortars. The effect of B-W alternative on physical-mechanical properties, as well as thermal transport and heat accumulation characteristics was evaluated. Obtained data showed only partial reduction of strength properties related with partial lightening of B-W dosed samples. However, higher porosity of mortars with alternative aggregate helped to mitigate thermal transport up to 40 %.
